Medical history has demonstrated that the bodies of women, non-binary, trans women and assigned female at birth (AFAB) people have been repeatedly overlooked and wrongly diagnosed.
‘Hormonal’ is a word that has historically been used against people with a menstrual cycle, as a way to negatively comment on ‘irrational’ behaviour. Wingrove was left fearing her natural self, questioning whether she would become ‘high-maintenance’ due to society’s outlook on menstrual cycles.
Unleash the Suppressed is a project exploring and visualising emotions through self-portraits. Wingrove uses the body and it’s movement as a way to show emotion, using it as a universal language to connect and communicate with others.
